How Long Does Snapchat Data Export Take? (2026 Answer)

Share It On:

Most Snapchat data exports arrive within 24 to 48 hours. It’s rare for it to take longer than that, though Snapchat’s own policy allows up to 7 days for very large libraries.

If it’s been longer than 2 days and you’re refreshing your inbox, here’s what’s normal, what’s not, and what to actually do about it.

The Direct Answer

For most accounts, requesting your data at accounts.snapchat.com results in an email with your download link within 24 to 48 hours. That’s the typical window, whether you’re exporting a few hundred memories or a few thousand.

Waiting past 48 hours isn’t unusual either. Snapchat’s own support page states that processing can take up to 7 days, and libraries with tens of thousands of memories are the ones most likely to land in that longer range.

So the honest answer: budget for 2 days, don’t panic before 7.

Why the Wait Time Varies

A few things affect how long your export takes to show up:

Library size. A few hundred memories are processed fast. Tens of thousands of files, spanning years of daily Snapchat use, take Snapchat’s servers longer to package.

Server load. Export requests queue on Snapchat’s side. If a lot of users are requesting data at once, for example, right before a deadline, processing slows down for everyone.

ZIP generation time. Snapchat has to bundle your actual photos and videos, plus the metadata and HTML files into one or more ZIP archives before it can email you a link. Larger libraries mean more ZIPs, which takes more time to generate.

None of this means anything is broken. It just means the 24 to 48-hour window is an average, not a guarantee.

The Old “100% But Nothing Downloaded” Bug

If you’ve read older guides about Snapchat exports, you may have seen warnings about a bug where the download progress bar hits 100% but no files actually land on your device. That was a real problem under Snapchat’s older browser-based download system, where you had to click through memories_history.html and download files one by one or all at once.

That specific bug doesn’t really apply anymore. The current export format bundles your actual photos and videos directly into the ZIP file itself, so there’s no separate browser download step that can silently fail after the fact. If your ZIP downloads, your files are in it.

What to Do If It Never Arrives

If it’s been more than a couple of days with no email, you can also check your export status directly rather than guessing.

Check spam and promotions folders. Snapchat’s export email doesn’t always land in your primary inbox.

Confirm the email address on file is correct. If you changed your email recently, the notification may have gone to an old address.

Wait out the full 7 days before re-requesting. Submitting a second request while the first is still processing can reset the queue and cost you more time, not less.

Re-request only after the 7-day mark. If you’ve genuinely waited a full week with nothing, submit a new request from My Data and make sure both “Export your Memories” and “Export JSON Files” are checked. If the request itself failed rather than just being slow, see why Snapchat exports fail and how to fix it.

The Download Link Expiry Warning

This is the part most people miss. The email Snapchat sends you contains a link to download your ZIP file or files, and that link expires. If you request your export and then get busy for a week, you may come back to a dead link and have to start the entire process over.

Download the ZIP or ZIPs the same day you get the email. Don’t treat the notification as a “reminder for later.” Once you have the files saved locally, the expiry no longer matters, since you’re working with your own copy.

If your library needed multiple ZIP files, download all of them before the link expires, not just the first one you see.

How ExportSnaps Fits Into the Wait

ExportSnaps doesn’t affect how long Snapchat takes to prepare your export. That part is entirely on Snapchat’s servers. What it changes is what happens once your ZIP files are actually in your hands. See the full how it works walkthrough or download the app to get started.

Since the current export already includes your real photos and videos, ExportSnaps works directly with those local files instead of fetching anything from Snapchat’s servers. You consolidate your ZIP files, load memories_history.json into the app, and it matches each file to its correct date, GPS location, and overlay, all processed locally on your computer. There’s no additional server wait once you have your export, since nothing gets downloaded again.

FAQ

How long does it take to download Snapchat data?

Most requests result in a download email within 24 to 48 hours. Larger libraries can take longer, with Snapchat allowing up to 7 days in its own policy.

How long does it take to export Snapchat data in 2026?

The timing hasn’t changed recently. Expect 24 to 48 hours for most accounts, with a small number of large libraries taking closer to a week.

Why is my Snapchat data export taking so long?

Usually, it’s library size or server load. If you have years of memories, or you requested your export during a high-traffic period like a deadline announcement, expect it to land on the longer end of the 24-hour to 7-day range.

What if my Snapchat export never arrives?

Check spam first. If it’s been a full 7 days with nothing, submit a new request rather than waiting indefinitely.

Does the Snapchat download link expire?

Yes. The link in the export email expires after a set window, so download your ZIP file or files as soon as you get the notification instead of waiting.
